Secondary School Curriculum
Our Secondary School in Bogotá encompasses the Middle and High School years, offering a distinguished bilingual education that integrates Colombia’s Ministry of Education standards with the prestigious Cambridge International Curriculum, based on the British educational system. This unique combination, paired with a dynamic English immersion, ensures students receive a rigorous and well-rounded education, preparing them for success in both local and international contexts.
Middle School Years
The Middle School curriculum follows the Cambridge Lower Secondary framework for core subjects like English, Mathematics, and Science. This stage is especially designed to establish a strong academic foundation, emphasising critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills. By the end of Middle School, students are well-prepared for a smooth transition into the rigorous International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme offered in High School.
High School Years
Students in Grade 10 take the Cambridge IGCSE examinations, earning globally recognised qualifications that enable them to pursue any post-16 academic pathways. This British international programme provides a broad and balanced education, with a core focus on subjects such as Mathematics, History, Spanish, and Global Perspectives, while offering the flexibility to explore electives like French, Music, Art & Design, Economics, and Biology. Through this approach, students not only acquire deep subject knowledge but also develop transferable skills that are essential for success in A Levels, university studies, and future careers.
As students progress to Grade 11, they begin their Advanced Level (A Level) programme, an internationally respected qualification for university entrance. The A Level curriculum allows students to specialise in up to four subjects, tailoring their studies to align with their interests and career aspirations with the support of our expert teachers and tutors. The High School international curriculum also emphasises in-depth knowledge, critical thinking, and research skills while integrating modern technology and future-ready skills. The A Level programme at St. Matthew School ensures students are exceptionally well-prepared for university-level education and globally competitive career paths.
Colombian National Curriculum Requirements at Secondary School
Our Middle and High School education in Bogotá also incorporates the Colombian National Education requirements, enabling students to gain a well-rounded education for future academic pursuits in the country. Through focused instruction in Colombian history, social norms, and ethics, students cultivate a sense of national identity while excelling in mandatory evaluations like the SABER 11 exams at High School. Our students consistently achieve outstanding results in these assessments, reflecting the excellence of our teaching and the curriculum’s blend of academic rigour and values-based education.
